Things I Wish Had Been in the New Super Smash Bros.

Ah, the Super Smash Bros. series. Who wouldn’t enjoy taking their favorite video game characters and throwing them into an arena to watch them punch each other into a glorious explosion? And now we finally have the fourth entry in the series to enjoy. And, in this case, over-analyze.

So to start things off, I’d like to say two things. Firstly, even though I’m writing an article about how unimpressed I am with this game, I’m actually very, very impressed. Secondly, I’m using the one for the Wii U, and I’ve only played the 3DS version only once. I’m fairly certain that the two are more or less identical, but I give this warning just as a precaution to me saying something stupid.

Now then, on to business.

Characters

Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog Series): We’ve had Sonic himself in Smash ever since Brawl, so why not another from that game series? ReallTailsy, the biggest problem I see with adding Tails into the game is that his attacks would be pretty much identical to Sonic’s. Althoughhhhh . . . I’m no expert on this game. It’s been years and years since I’ve ever played a Sonic game. But after some *cough* research I found out that can’t Tails fly? That could be his up-special! As for any other moves that would make him different from just an orange clone of Sonic, he does have two tails, so maybe his smash attacks could be some sort of tail swipe or something like that. There’s definitely enough ways to make Tails a fighter.

ExciteBiker (ExciteBike): Inspired by a post I saw Excitebike page fouron Reddit, where the guy who made the original post did a good job going into detail on every single move that ExciteBiker would use, and he convinced me that he’d be a good fighter in Smash. Nintendo has added many nostalgia-esque 80’s characters into the Smash series, like Ice Climbers, and in the new one, Pac-Man and Duck Hunt. And if I remember, there were ExciteBikers as a helper in Brawl. Little Mac became a fighter, and he was originally a helper as well (Ooh, look at me, I’m a Smash expert). NIntendo, you’re out of excuses.

Petey Piranha (Super Mario Series): I don’t have much logic behind why I want Petey PiranhaPetey to be in the game. But I feel like he’d be a good fighter if he was. His attacks would obviously be pretty botany-based, and would probably throw around seeds or whatever piranha plants grow from. His up-special could be him shooting up out of a pipe like piranha plants do in the Super Mario Brothers games. More importantly, I have a pretty good idea of what his Final Smash would be. In Mario Strikers Charged, Petey had Mud Slingerthe odd ability to knock over his opponents by spewing mud onto them. That seems like a pretty good attack for Petey to use as his Final Smash; having him go around spitting mud onto everyone and getting them stuck. A very Smash-y thing to do.

Stages

Flipsville Galaxy, Underground Gravity Area (Super Mario Galaxy Two): The Super Mario Galaxy Series is known for being Underground Gravity Areaable to throw you any which way with its bizarre gravity effects. Wouldn’t it be awesome if there was a stage where you had the option of fighting upside down and sideways? Yeah, yeah, there are already helpers that do that,  but the thing about this stage is that you could go in and out of the gravity warp thing just by walking out of it, just like Mario would do in the Galaxy games. This way, you could escape an attack just by jumping into a different gravity field, and even use them to your own advantage by punching an opponent into a field facing you, and getting them again when they fly back out. People could have a lot of fun with this stage.

Pokémon Center (Pokémon Series): If you haven’t noticed by now from reading this article, I pretty much never play anything except Mario games, which is why most of my ideas here are from that series. So I figured I should probably addPokemon Center something from somewhere else. And what better place than the Pokémon center? We’ve seen a couple of Pokémon stages in the Smash series, but I don’t remember one that puts the characters directly into the game. One reason I pick the Pokémon center is because in this stage you would have the opportunity to heal yourself, just like the Pokémon center does in the series. How you would get it, I couldn’t imagine. Maybe the little machine that fixes your Pokémon would occasionally open up, you jump into it, and boom, you’re healed. I don’t know. Like I said, I know almost nothing about these games. I am very unqualified to be writing this article.

Of course, I’d like to point out again that I’m not saying that the game is no good. As my dad will quickly point out, it’s pretty much all I do anymore. Well, that and writing articles about it. But anyways, I actually think that this new Smash Bros. is an amazing game, and the characters and stages and everything else in the game are what make the game. This article was really just made because it’s already great, and I was hoping that the game’s greatness would disguise my shoddy writing. I hope it worked.

Happy Smashing!
